The Fine Arts Department of Ringling College of Art and Design is pleased to present Resilience, a collection of works from Fine Arts Junior Pao Chutijirawong made during a two-week residency program at Hambidge Center in Georgia, USA. Each piece is composed of individual entities combined to work as a whole and explore ideas surrounding Resilience and rebirth through the patient perseverance of nature.

Pao Chutijirawong: Statement

Being in the midst of a rainy forest, detached from any digital connection, the works emerged as a visual form of relationship built between her and the surrounding complex nature. A forest in the North Georgia Mountains, demolished in the past, once marked the Trail of Tears, but it is breathing here and now. In nature, the process of decomposition is also the process of reincarnation. The entire body of work circulates around the notion of Resilience, the ability to heal and thrive in the face of difficulties. Mediums employed in the works were accidentally found during her stay and vary in shape and form, but they are all interconnected in the process of decomposition. As one life turns into another form of life, the Resilience is ubiquitous, present in every moment.
