BIOPHILIA

ARTISTS: Christina Antoniou and Pretty Ram

April 18 - 19, 2024

Reception: Friday, April 19, 2024, 5 - 8 pm

Biophilia displays the innate connection between place and identity. Originating from the Greek word, “philia'' meaning ‘love of’, reflects the natural tendency to interact closely with the natural world. The works of these artists explore the relationship of place and their personal culture, extending the concept of identity and home. Christina Antoniou creates narrative paintings and ceramic sculptures that provoke conversations on the intersections between the return to home land, environmental consciousness and connection to cultural heritage. Pretty Ram creates installations that combine paintings, sculptures, and time-based videos. Her work focuses on the notion of escaping confined spaces, drawing inspiration from her cultural experiences living in Fiji.
